Growing With The World's Best Jira Backup Solution

Growing With The World's Best Jira Backup Solution

Background

I didn't plan to be doing this when I was young.

In fact, I didn't plan to be doing this role two years ago.  It just kind of happened.

In 2022, that optimistic, post-covid era where we were all getting back to a 'new normal' way of life and working, I was loving life.  I had moved my workplace to the old 'shed' on my little farm.  I spent about two thirds of my time as a marketing coach and trainer and the rest of my timing doing small marketing projects for exciting companies.

Jira Backups Was Not Part of the Plan

I got a call from my good friend, and client, Glenn. He asked me to talk to a guy in the states who  wanted some  marketing strategy work done so I got on a zoom with this chap called Vish.

I liked Vish, the CEO and cofounder of Jira Backup Provider, Revyz.io - he was super straight up and told me exactly what their mission was.  He gave me numbers, goals and who they were targeting and he possessed a rare mix of ambition and pragmatism.

What was quite weird though was how suited I was to this project.  It wasn't just that it was a software marketing strategy - there was so much more.  Firstly, they're a backup software company in an industry that was migrating from server based software to cloud based software. I had navigated through this with a different vendor (Microsoft) for 5 years with my own tech business back in 2010.   The other thing was that they were building the software and selling through a channel.  Again, I had done exactly this with a different software firm in 2012.  Lastly, their key USP was around security and resiliency with a focus on enterprise clients.  This married up nicely with a stint that I did launching a cyber-security product to banks, universities and government entities in 2008!  Just about everything that

I quickly agreed to work on assisting with a go to market strategy.  We looked at personas, client journeys, channels - all of that good stuff.  I presented the strategy to Vish and left him to think about it whilst I got focused on another project that involved one of the greatest rugby teams in the world (Canterbury Crusaders Coaching Leadership Programme).

Roll the clock forward to about three months later and Vish reached out to me.  He wanted to know if I would be able to help them execute on the strategy.  Again, Vish was pragmatic about the approach and wanted to move quickly.  I decided to help for a few hours a week and we got stuck in.

Then Things Took Off

I ended up finishing the project off with the rugby team and offered some more of my time to Revyz.  The campaigns were going OK but we need to do more, and we needed to do it faster.  Within a few months I think that I was focusing about 80% of my time on Revyz and was growing a small team.  We were doing everything at pace, and covering off as many channels as we could including email marketing, website, SEO, social media, webinars, interviews, video.... the list went on and the project list got bigger.

And Then We Went to Vegas

I started writing this blog at 11pm on a Tuesday night and have decided that I'm going to write another section on another day so lets leave this here for now.
